A change consultant is not your run of the mill consultant. Sure they’re smart with a good education. Ours have interesting / atypical backgrounds and a proven successful career before they join us. They are confident, challenging, and determined.
A good change consultant also needs some “street cred.” Not always industry specific expertise – sometimes that’s baggage – but expertise about developing effective systems and processes and the ability to motivate the workforce to want to change.
They don’t expect a 9-5 job, and they don’t get it. They don’t work in their home city, or regularly not even in their home country. They don’t have a corner office – or any office for that matter - and they often wear different uniforms. Our change consultants, to be effective, work at client premises, together with the client people that they’ll be helping to bring about change. That means hard hats, boiler suits and steel tipped safety boots. Or scrubs, caps and booties. An oil platform, a mine, or a hospital, steel mill or even a city centre office – our consultants accept each challenge as it comes.
